Description
This dataset contains supplementary material to “Light-absorbing snow impurities: Nine years (2016-2024) of snowpack sampling close to Sonnblick Observatory, Austrian Alps” (DOI will be added here as soon as available). Concentrations and depositions of organic and elemental carbon in single layers of the seasonal snow covers collected between 2016 and 2024 are given, which are based on thermal-optical analysis data. Furthermore, data for method development presented in the publication as well as the mineral dust concentrations and depositions for single layers approximated based on thermal-optical analysis data are included.
Context and methodology
- Light-absorbing snow impurities were analysed in the seasonal snow covers collected between 2016 and 2024.
- After filtration onto quartz fibre filters, samples were subjected to thermal-optical analysis to obtain elemental and organic carbon loadings.
- Samples containing mineral dust were identified and the bias introduced by the dust on the elemental and organic carbon results quantified.
- Mineral dust loadings were approximated based on thermal-optical analysis data and the iron mass fraction in mineral dust from long-range transport.
Technical details
- The dataset is described in the file “Readme.pdf”.
- The data was compiled in the file “Data.xslx”, which contains concentration and deposition data for elemental and organic carbon as well as approximated results for mineral dust for single layers and data used for method development. The file is structured using multiple data sheets, a detailed description is given in the Readme-file.
